What decides dairy farm profit

  • Milk per cow: two more litres a day from each cow often matters more than adding cows. Feed for yield, and sell or treat animals that stay low.
  • Feed cost: usually the biggest cost, often 60–75% of the total. Grow green fodder where you can and balance concentrate to each cow's milk.
  • Dry and empty animals: they eat every day but give no milk. Breeding on time keeps one calf a year and fewer idle days.
  • Health: mastitis, lameness and a missed heat cost far more in lost milk than the medicine.
  • Fat and SNF: if your dairy pays by quality, better fodder and minerals raise the price of every litre.

Estimate vs the real number

A calculator uses averages. Real profit comes from real records: each cow's milk every day, what was fed, the dairy's bill and every rupee paid out, including advances to workers. That's the gap Pashupaalak closes: it estimates milk income from the kg weighed at the scale, replaces the estimate with the dairy's bill when it comes, and shows profit per cow.

Common questions

How much profit does a 10-cow dairy farm make in India?

It depends mostly on milk per cow, feed cost and milk price. With 10 cows at 10 litres a day, milk at ₹40 and feed around ₹220 per cow per day, profit is roughly ₹25,000–30,000 a month before loan payments.

What is the cost of producing one litre of milk?

Divide all monthly costs by the litres sold in the month. For many small farms it falls between ₹28 and ₹38 a litre, mostly driven by feed.

How can I increase dairy farm profit?

Raise milk per cow with balanced feeding, keep calving intervals near 12–13 months, grow your own green fodder, prevent mastitis, and remove animals that eat more than they earn.

Should I count family labour?

Yes, put a fair wage for it. Otherwise the farm looks more profitable than it is and you can't compare it with other work.
